The Fresh Oil of Time Prophecy

The subject of time prophecy has become a hot topic in Adventism today, however when we study the topic, it must be done in the light of what the prophet Sister Ellen G White has said concerning it. She was very clear on the fact that Prophetic Time ended in 1844. Now let's take a look at some of the things she had to say concerning this:--

(1) "This time, which the angel declares with a solemn oath, is not the end of this world's history, neither of probationary time, but of prophetic time, which should precede the advent of our Lord. That is, the people will not have another message upon definite time. After this period of time, reaching from 1842 to 1844, there can be no definite tracing of the prophetic time. The longest reckoning reaches to the autumn of 1844." Ellen G White, The Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 971.

(2) "I plainly stated at the Jackson camp meeting to these fanatical parties that they were doing the work of the adversary of souls; they were in darkness. They claimed to have great light that probation would close in October 1884. I there stated in public that the Lord had been pleased to show me that there would be no definite time in the message given of God since 1844."Ellen G. White, Selected Messages, book 2, page 73.

(3) "Our position has been one of waiting and watching, with no time-proclamation to intervene between the close of the prophetic periods in 1844 and the time of our Lord's coming." – Ellen G. White, Manuscript Releases, volume 10, page 270.

(4) "I have borne the testimony since the passing of the time in 1844, that there should be no definite time set by which to test God's people. The great test on time was in 1843 and 1844; and all who have set time since this great period marked in prophecy, were deceiving and being deceived." Life Sketches of James and Ellen White 1888, page 222.

(5) "Jesus did not come to the earth as the waiting, joyful company expected, to cleanse the sanctuary by purifying the earth by fire. I saw that they were correct in their reckoning of the prophetic periods; prophetic time closed in 1844, and Jesus entered the most holy place to cleanse the sanctuary at the ending of the days." Ellen G White, Early Writings Page 243.

After reading these statements, there should be no doubt in your mind as to the position that Ellen and James White took, regarding the fact that Prophetic Time ended in 1844; and now that we can agree on the fact that there is no Prophetic Time beyond 1844, let us now begin our study on TIME PROPHECY.

Based on the Scripture, Prophetic Time involved three major time periods. They are the 2520 days, the 2450 days and the 2300 days. In prophecy, a day represents a year. "I have appointed thee each day for a year." Ezekiel 4:6 KJV.

The purpose of time prophecy is to bring to light both the scattering and the gathering of Israel, and also to explore the reasons why these events occurred. It is also important to mention that in all of this, the LORD was very specific about His character and nature:

After Moses delivered Israel out of bondage, the Lord said many things to them:--

Please read Leviticus 26:13- 46 with particular emphasis on verse 18, also Deuteronomy 30:15-20. Here you will find a series of blessings and cursings which still apply to us today. But Israel would not hearken unto the voice of the Lord.

A time (year) in Bible prophecy is always based in Jewish time, and the Jewish calendar year is always 360 days. Therefore the time referred to here mentioned as seven times, is equal to 360 days (years) multiplied by 7 = 2520 days (years).

The beginning of events in Israel—

2 Chronicles 12:13 tells us that Rehoboam succeeded his father Solomon, as king to the throne of Israel at age forty one. (1 Kings 11:43).

Jeroboam tells Rehoboam: son of Solomon and grandson of David, that Israel will serve him if he lightens their burdens.

Rehoboam seeks counsel of both young and old men, but, under negative peer pressure, when he rejects the counsel of the old men, and refused to alleviate the tax and corveé burden of Israel, the ten northern tribes then revolt and follow Jeroboam. (1 Kings 12:1-21).

After their rebellion in 931 BC to form the independent Kingdom of Israel under Jeroboam, Reoboam was now left with only the two tribes; Judah and Benjamin. Thus the southern Kingdom of Judah was formed, over which he was now king.

The religion of Israel began with a man, Jeroboam I, who changed the true worship of God.

  • He established a feast in the eighth month to replace the true Feast of Tabernacles in the seventh.
  • He may have replaced the Sabbath with Sunday worship.
  • He replaced the Levitical priesthood with men of his own choosing.
  • Lastly, he replaced God with golden calves in Bethel and Dan.

After reading the above text, you will see that Jeroboam I set up this form of worship purely for selfish reasons.

1 King 14: 1-20 tells of some of the major events following his actions.

In verses 1-3-- Jeroboam sends his wife on a very secretive mission. In verses 4-6--Jeroboam's wife meets with Ahijah the prophet. In verses 7-11-- Ahijah declares God's judgment on the house of Jeroboam. In verses 12-16-- the immediate and distant judgments are pronounced. In verses 17-18-- the immediate judgment is fulfilled on the house of Jeroboam. In verses 19-20-- the death of Jeroboam and the summary of his reign are recorded.

Here we see that the prophecy of the death of Jeroboam's son was immediately fulfilled, yet the prophecy about Israel's national exile was yet to be fulfilled centuries later.

Jeroboam 2 was the son of King Joash, and the great grandson of King Jehu. He reigned 41 years (789-748 BC). He was the 13th king of the northern kingdom of Israel. He was not related to Jeroboam 1. He fought and conquered Damascus and Hamath and expanded Israel's boundaries. There were peaceful relations between Israel and Judah during the reign of Jeroboam 2, and Israel became wealthy. Many of the reigning kings in Israel who succeeded Jeroboam I continued to do evil in the sight of the Lord, but it was not until 732 BC that Israel conspired with Syria to attack Judah.

The count down in Israel begins

In 732 BC during the reign of Pekah; king of Israel, the first ancient confederacy; which is the type of the New World Order Church/State of today, occurring in the time of the prophet Isaiah, is found in Isaiah 7:1-3. It was between the northern ten tribe kingdom of apostate Israel (the church), and the worldly heathen kingdom of Syria (the state). Yahweh was against them because their objective was to destroy their brothers; the southern two tribe kingdom of Judah, and even though Israel/ Ephraim was His people, He favored Judah in this circumstance, because Ephraim had joined heathen forces to fight against his brother Judah. After the Israel–Syria confederacy was formed, Jehovah sent the prophet Isaiah to Ahaz: king of the house of David (Judah), telling him that He would allow Assyria to break up their confederacy.

Moreover, Jehovah gave a 'virgin–birth sign' to Ahaz even though he refused to ask for it, when he was told to ask. This sign was given to help his unbelief, because he did not believe that in 65 years this unholy alliance between Israel and Syria would indeed be broken. The word "in" used here means "within" and not at the end of that time period.

This prophecy was fulfilled by the birth of Yahushua (Jesus), who lives in His people: the Emmanuelite Christians. In the initial stage, Yahweh called Israel and Syria two smoking fire brands, because at that time, their confederacy against Judah would not yet have matured, erupting into an open flame (the New World Order). But at this One World Government stage, Israel--a heathenized apostate Roman Catholic Church, Syria—the Roman state, and Assyria--the Protestant Nations have all joined together to war against Judah; representative of the Seventh Day Adventist church (Spiritual Israel) today. But this New World Order Church/State Confederacy will be defeated by Yahushua Ha Maschiac, along with His Emmanuelite Sabbath keepers of today.

The division of time involved here namely the 2520 days, relates to the first block of prophetic time along with all the events, preceding the work of atonement in the heavenly sanctuary. For based on the biblical account, after the ancient Church/State Confederacy of Isaiah chapter 7 began, "3 Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field;

4 And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

5 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,

6 Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:

7 Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

8 For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.

9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established."

10 Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

11 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.

13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin [Mary] shall conceive, and bear a son [Yahushua/Jesus], and shall call his name Immanuel.

15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

17 The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.

There are many references both in the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy pertaining to the break up of the Israel/ Syria confederacy, which occurred sometime within the sixty five years and not at the end of it. "Ancient Israel as a nation and a government were obliged to protect their own property, people, and families--even by the sword. But they were not to war against their own brethren. When the ten-tribe kingdom, Israel, confederated with Syria to war against the two-tribe kingdom, Judah, God's curse rested upon both Syria and Israel, and each was consequently broken by the king of Assyria."--5 Answerer Book, pgs. 71-72.

"And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king's house, and sent it for a present to the king of Assyria. And the king hearkened unto him: for the king of Assyria went up against Damascus (capital city of Syria), and took it, and carried the people of it captive to Kir, and slew Rezin (king of Syria)."--2 Kings 16:8,9.

"And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria,...Because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord..."--2 Kings 18:11,12.

King Ahaz of Judah neither believed in the Virgin Birth sign nor in the Word of Jehovah, that Israel would be broken within 65 years. We know this because when Isaiah told him to ask for a sign he refused to ask, and also instead of waiting for the Lord to fulfill the prophecy about the break up of the Israel/Syria confederacy, he sent to ask Tiglathpilese, king of Assyria for help in this matter. 2 Kings 16:7 KJV.

However, even though he did this, it could not have happened if the Lord had not over ruled it. Thus, when ancient Israel fell, it was God who was responsible for it, and based on the time prophecy, by 677 BC Israel was completely scattered.

The First Scattering: Israel's exile into Assyrian Captivity

The 2520 day time prophecy involves the scattering of Israel as they went into Assyrian bondage. The scattering was complete by 677 BC during the reign of Manasseh, for all the evil that he had done in Israel. History records good kings such as Hezekiah and Josiah, however most of the kings in Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, "For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the Lord, and made them sin a great sin. For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them; Until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day. 2 Kings 17:21-23 KJV.

2520--677 = 1843, therefore, the scattering of Israel ended in 1843 AD. Then the following year 1844 AD, gave birth to the Seventh Day Adventist church, which was founded under the leadership of Ellen G White. This reinstituted worship on the 7th Day Sabbath, and also brought into focus the begining of the cleansing of the sanctuary in Heaven, Daniel 8:13-14 KJV. Thus the gathering of Israel began in 1844 AD.

The count down in Judah begins

Another very important time prophecy is that of the 2450 days. This prophecy pertaining to the Babylonian exile refers to the period in Israel's history, when the Southern Kingdom of Judah was taken captive by King Nebuchadnezzar 11 of Babylon. Not many Seventh Day Adventist leaders know and understand this prophecy, even though it is the one that most directly deals with our history as a people. This is so because when Yahushua/ Jesus Christ of Nazareth came to earth as a baby to redeem man, He was born in a stable in Bethlehem. This is a town in northern Israel, located about six miles southwest of Jerusalem. Thus it is safe to say that when Christ came, it was through the tribe of Judah. Therefore, after His death on the cross, the disciples, who began the religion of Christianity were also from the tribe of Judah. The spreading of their faith, involving the recognition of keeping all Ten Commandments, leads down through time to the birth of the Seventh Day Adventist religion, deducing that our faith mirrors that of Jesus'. Hence, if He was from the tribe of Judah, then the Seventh Day Adventist Church must be the daughter of Judah: Spiritual Israel of the last days.

God used Babylon as His agent of judgment against Israel for their sins of idolatry and rebellion against Him. There were actually several different times during this period (607-586 B.C.) when the Jews were taken captive by Babylon. With each successive rebellion against Babylonian rule, Nebuchadnezzar would lead his armies against Judah until they laid siege to Jerusalem for over a year, killing many people and destroying the Jewish temple, taking captive many thousands of Jews, and leaving Jerusalem in ruins.

Under the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar II, the Babylonian Empire spread throughout the Middle East, and around 607 B.C., King Jehoiakim of Judah was forced into submission, becoming a vassal to Nebuchadnezzar (2 Kings 24:1). It was during this time that Nebuchadnezzar took many of the finest and brightest young men from each city in Judah captive, including Daniel, Hananiah (Shadrach), Mishael (Meshach) and Azariah (Abednego).

After three years of serving Nebuchadnezzar, Jehoiakim of Judah rebelled against Babylonian rule and once again turned to Egypt for support. After sending his army to deal with Judah's revolt, Nebuchadnezzar himself left Babylon in 598 B.C. to deal with the problem. Arriving in Jerusalem around March of 597 B.C., Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem, taking control of the area, looting it, and taking captive with him Jehoikim's son, Jehoiachin, his family, and almost all of the population of Judah, leaving only the poorest people of the land (2 Kings 24:8-16).

At that time Nebuchadnezzar appointed King Zedekiah to rule as his representative over Judah, but after nine years and still not having learned their lesson, Zedekiah led Judah in rebellion against Babylon one final time (2 Kings 24–25). Influenced by false prophets and ignoring Jeremiah's warnings, Zedekiah decided to join a coalition that was being formed by Edom, Moab, Ammon and Phoenicia in rebellion against Nebuchadnezzar (Jeremiah 27:1-3). This resulted in Nebuchadnezzar again laying siege to Jerusalem. Jerusalem fell in July 586 B.C., and Zedekiah was taken captive to Babylon after seeing his sons killed before him and then having his eyes plucked out (2 Kings 25). At this time Jerusalem was laid to waste, the temple destroyed and all the houses burned. The majority of the Jewish people were taken captive, but, again, Nebuchadnezzar left a remnant of poor people to serve as farmers and vinedressers (2 Kings 25:12). The Second Scattering: Judah's exile into Babylonian Captivity

The 2450 day time prophecy involves the captivity of Judah as they went into Babylonian exile. This bondage began in 607 BC during the reign of King Jehoiakim.

2450-607=1843, therefore, the scattering of both Israel and Judah ended in 1843 AD. Then the following year 1844 AD, gave birth to the Seventh Day Adventist church, which was founded under the leadership of Ellen G White. This reinstituted worship on the 7th Day Sabbath, and also brought into focus the begining of the cleansing of the sanctuary in Heaven, Daniel 8:13-14 KJV. The 2300 days count down begins

"Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation , to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." Daniel 8:13-14 KJV.

Another very important time prophecy given by the prophet Daniel is that of the 2300 days. This prophecy pertains to the return of Judah from Babylon to Jerusalem to rebuild the city and the walls, thus reinstituting the worship of Jehovah: the true and living God in Israel.

In 539 BC the Babylonian Empire was defeated by the armies of Persia, and in 536 BC, Cyrus King of Persia gave instructions for the Jews to return from Babylon to Jerusalem to build a house unto the Lord.

"Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up." 2 Chronicles 36:22-23.

However, the count down for the 2300 days actually began in 457 BC, when after the death of Cyrus, Artaxerxes 1 actually gave the decree for Israel to go up to Jerusalem by their freewill.

"Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel. Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time. I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee." Ezra 7:11-13.

"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times." Daniel 9:25. KJV.

The Return of Judah from Babylonian Exile

The 2300 days time prophecy began in 457 BC, when Artaxerxes 1 actually gave the decree for Israel to go up to Jerusalem by their freewill to rebuild the city and the walls.

2300--457 =1843, bringing an end to time prophecy. The Millerite Movement ended in 1843 AD, and in 1844 AD, the Seventh Day Adventist church, was founded under the leadership of Ellen G White. This reinstituted worship on the 7th Day Sabbath, and also brought into focus the beginning of the cleansing of the sanctuary in Heaven, Daniel 8:13-14 KJV. Thus the gathering of Israel began in 1844.

2300 Days

"And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." Daniel 8:14 KJV.

In order to thoroughly understand the significance of this time prophecy, it is nessesary to study the ancient Hebrew sanctuary and its offerings, which were symbols of the Gospel activities in pictures, revealing Yahweh's plan of salvation for humanity. Therefore, how important it is for present day Christian believers to know and understand, that this prophecy regarding the work of atonement in the heavenly sanctuary, applies not only to the dead, but is equally important for you and me. Those of us who are still living today in these in these end times, right before the Second Coming of Yahushua Ha Maschiac (Jesus Christ Messiah).

In Exodus 25:8-9 Moses was shown the plan for the Tabernacle or Sanctuary. This Sanctuary was a simplified version of the heavenly Tabernacle. It revealed Yahushua (Jesus) as our High Priest and mediator in the plan of salvation, and this service was carried out by the Israelites while they wandered in the wilderness.

This sanctuary was made up of (1) an outer court containing the Brazen Alter of Burnt offering and the Laver, and (2) two inner compartments:-i- the Holy Place containing the table of Shewbread, the Golden Candlestick, and the Alter of Incense, and ii-- the Most Holy Place or Holy of Holies. In this compartment there was one piece of furniture called the Ark of the Covenant, constructed of acacia wood and covered with gold. This ark contained the Ten Commandments written on two tables of stone, and Aaron's rod that budded, along with a small pot of manna. The top cover of the ark was called the "mercy seat," and above it was the shinning Shekinah (dwelling) glory, radiating between two cherubims on either end of the ark. This was a symbol of the throne of God, and the presence of the Almighty in heaven. Read Exodus 25:17-22 KJV.

The 2300 Days Time Table

"The time of the first advent and of some of the chief events clustering about the Saviour's lifework was made known by the angel Gabriel to Daniel. "Seventy weeks," said the angel, "are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy." Daniel 9:24. A day in prophecy stands for a year. See Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6. The seventy weeks, or four hundred and ninety days, represent four hundred and ninety years. A starting point for this period is given: "Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks" (Daniel 9:25), sixty-nine weeks, or four hundred and eighty-three years. The commandment to restore and build Jerusalem, as completed by the decree of Artaxerxes Longimanus, went into effect in the autumn of 457 B.C. See Ezra 6:14; 7:1, 9. From this time four hundred and eighty-three years extend to the autumn of A.D. 27. According to the prophecy, this period was to reach to the Messiah, the Anointed One. In A.D. 27, Jesus at His baptism received the anointing of the Holy Spirit and soon afterward began His ministry. Then the message was proclaimed, "The time is fulfilled." Mark 1:15.

Then, said the angel, "He shall confirm the covenant with many for one week [seven years]." For seven years after the Saviour entered on His ministry, the gospel was to be preached especially to the Jews; for three and a half years by Christ Himself, and afterward by the apostles. "In the midst of the week He shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease." Daniel 9:27. In the spring of A.D. 31, Christ, the true Sacrifice, was offered on Calvary. Then the veil of the temple was rent in twain, showing that the sacredness and significance of the sacrificial service had departed. The time had come for the earthly sacrifice and oblation to cease.

The one week--seven years--ended in A.D. 34. Then by the stoning of Stephen the Jews finally sealed their rejection of the gospel; the disciples who were scattered abroad by persecution "went everywhere preaching the word" (Acts 8:4); and shortly after, Saul the persecutor was converted and became Paul the apostle to the Gentiles." Ellen G White, Prophets and Kings, Chapter 58 p.698-699.

The Way of the Cross Lead Home

The 2300 days time prophecy pertains to the cleansing of the sanctuary in Heaven. This prophecy holds significant meaning, not only for the investigative judgment of the dead, which began on October 22nd, 1844 on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), but also for the investigative judgment of the living. Investigating the living will begin when the former phase of investigating the dead is complete. Yahushua has divinely set in history, not only the festivals (moedims) for His first coming, namely Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits and Pentecost, but also for the beginning of the investigative judgment in heaven, in the Most Holy Place on Yom Kippur on October 22nd, 1844.

In like manner, He also has set festivals for His second coming. Needless to say, if He fulfilled the spring feast at His first coming to the day, then He will also fulfill the fall feast at His second coming to the day, in their respective order of Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets), Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) and Sukkoth (Feast of Tabernacles). The Day of Atonement

In ancient days "The tenth day of the seventh month was the day of atonement. (Lev. 23:27) It was regarded as more sacred than any other day in the yearly round of service. It was a ceremonial Sabbath and a fast day (Lev. 23:30).

In the type, after the high priest had finished the work within the sanctuary on the Day of Atonement, he came forth bearing the sins of all Israel, and placed them upon the head of the scapegoat.

The scapegoat had no part in reconciling the people to God. The work of reconciling was all ended (Lev. 16:20) when the scapegoat was brought forward to act his part in the service. The only work of the scapegoat is to act as a vehicle to carry the sins of the righteous into the "land of separation."

The term "scapegoat" has become a synonym of an evil one. Azazel, the Hebrew rendering of scape goat, is a proper name, and is understood to represent the devil. When our High Priest has finished His work in the heavenly sanctuary, He will place all the sins of the righteous, which He has borne thus far, upon the head of Satan, (Ps. 7:16) the instigator of sin. Satan will then be left upon the desolate earth, (Jer. 4:23-27; Zech. 1:2,3) a land not inhabited, for one thousand years. At the end of this time he will be loosed for a season and then burned to ashes in the fires of the last day. (Rev. 20:9,10, Mal. 4:1-3, Eze 28:18,19) Hebrews 9:28 KJV.

The word "atonement" means "at-one-ment;" and when Christ pronounces the decree which determines the eternal destiny of every soul He and the subjects of His kingdom are at-one-ment. Sin will never again separate Christ from His people." Stephen N Haskell, The Cross and its Shadow: Chapter 29.

"The ark of the earthly sanctuary was the pattern of the true ark in heaven." ---Ellen G White, Spiritual Gifts, vol. 4, Facts of Faith, p. 8.

Transfer of sin--

"The sins of the people were transferred in figure to the officiating priest, who was a mediator for the people. The priest could not himself become an offering for sin, and make an atonement with his life, for he was also a sinner. Therefore, instead of suffering death himself, he killed a lamb without blemish; the penalty of sin was transferred to the innocent beast, which thus became his immediate substitute, and typified the perfect offering of Jesus Christ. Through the blood of this victim, man looked forward by faith to the blood of Christ which would atone for the sins of the world."—Signs of the Times, Mar. 14, 1878, p. 81.

This statement by John the Baptist, was a declaration that Yahushua Ha Mashaich (Jesus Christ Messiah), was a fulfillment of both Pesach (Passover) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement).

Holy Doctrine Trodden Under Foot

The sanctuary and Sabbath truths were restored to their proper place in 1844. But the question as to the time when these two holy doctrines were "cast to the ground," or "trodden under foot," remains to be answered. The angel, speaking to Daniel relative to the time, said: "And from the time that the daily shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days." (Dan. 12:11, 12.)

It will be noticed that there is no blessing pronounced at the termination of the 1290 prophetic days (years), but there is a special blessing promised to those who wait till the 1335 days (years) are fulfilled. Therefore, at the end of the 1335 years the "daily" (Sabbath) was to be restored, and the blessing is to those who shall live from that time on, if they understand and receive its truth.

To ascertain the prophetic time when the Seventh-day Sabbath ("daily"), and the "truth" ("sanctuary") were trodden underfoot, and Sunday observance with its Pagan priesthood set up in their stead, it would be necessary to subtract 1335 years from 1844, which would point back to 508 A.D., (dealing with the Hebrew calendar). In that year the "Daily" (Sabbath) and the "Sanctuary" truths were "cast to the ground," and the "Abomination" (Sunday) "set up."

In order to understand the truth of the 1290 years ("days"), add this figure to 508, which points forward to 1798 A.D. at which time the 1260 prophetic days of Daniel 7:25 terminated with the imprisonment of Pope Pius VI. Thus the prophetic treading of the "host" ended in 1798, but the "sanctuary" and the "daily" truths were not restored and placed in the church until after the fulfillment of the 1335 days (years) in 1844. This unquestionable evidence proves that the movement that arose in 1844 is God's true church, and divinely predicted. Hence it clears up the widespread confusion in Christendom, as to which denomination has the truth for the present time; it also weeds out all the rest as false, for it is the only movement that has the truth of the sanctuary.

As the truth of the two inseparable doctrines were thrown down in 508 A.D., preliminary to the setting up of the papacy, just so the imprisonment of the pope in 1798 was preparatory to the restoration of the jointly taught Bible truths, the Sabbath and the Sanctuary. The accountability that rests on the papacy is not the observance of the day, but rather, the desire to change the law of God, as shown in Daniel 7:25: "Think to change times and laws." The papacy thought to erase the Seventh-day Sabbath from the eternal law, and to inscribe the first day of the week in its place. V. T. Houteff, Shepherd's Rod book, Vol. 2, p.132 -133:0.

Two Divisions in Christ's Work

After His ascension, our Saviour was to begin His work as our high priest. Says Paul, "Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us." As Christ's ministration was to consist of two great divisions, each occupying a period of time and having a distinctive place in the heavenly sanctuary, so the typical ministration consisted of two divisions, the daily and the yearly service, and to each a department of the tabernacle was devoted.—Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 357.

In determining the location of the throne of Revelation 4, and the one of Revelation 22, we note to begin with that the latter, the one from which the "river...of life" proceeds, is, says the Revelator, "the throne of God and of the Lamb" -- that upon which Christ sat at the right hand of God after His resurrection.

The former, the one having the sea of glass before it, is (also according to John's view) in the most holy apartment of the heavenly sanctuary, for John saw before it "seven lamps of fire" (Rev. 4:5) -- a sanctuary fixture. "As in vision the apostle John was granted a view of the temple of God in heaven he beheld there 'seven lamps of fire burning before the throne.' " -- The Great Controversy, p. 414.

Then, concerning the Father and the Son's moving from the throne of God and of the Lamb -- the one where the river of life is -- to the throne where the sea of glass is, we read: "I saw the Father rise from the throne, and in a flaming chariot go into the holy of holies within the veil, and sit down. Then Jesus rose up from the throne,... Then a cloudy chariot, with wheels like flaming fire, surrounded by angels, came to where Jesus was. He stepped into the chariot and was borne to the holiest, where the Father sat." -- Early Writings, p. 55.

Recording the same event as he saw it, Daniel says: "I beheld till the thrones were cast down and the Ancient of days did sit, Whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool: His throne was like the fiery flame, and His wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him: thousand thousands ministered unto Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened." Dan. 7:9, 10.

Where there is no type there is no truth--

In ancient Israel, based on the type, the High priest went into the Holy of Holies (the Most Holy Place) to atone for Israel only once a year on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). Today, in antitype, Yahushua (Jesus) must also do the same for His people. "Who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ." Ephesians 2:16 KJV "In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our sins," Acts 3:19; 1Peter 2:24; "Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree." 1Peter 2:24; KJV "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." Hebrews 9:28 KJV.

In the typical service, the sins of Israel was atoned for on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), therefore, in like manner in anti-type, the sins of modern day Israel (the church) must also be atoned for on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). The Investigative Judgment of the dead began on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) October 22nd, 1844. Therefore, in like manner the living must be atoned for in the future, after this process of investigation for the dead has been completed, also on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). Yahushua Ha Maschiach (Jesus Christ Messiah) has announced from now until September 23, 2015, the Acceptable Year of the Lord.
